So recently, this dude managed to obtain a rare prototype Nintendo Ultra 64 game controller, one of the black ones with the oversized thumbstick pad.

Yeah, that's the guy. If only someone would make a functioning replica of the prototype Ultra 64 controller for use on the N64 console...

If I recall correctly, there was someone from the old AssemblerGames forum who had an Ultra 64 console, like an actual Ultra 64 and not a final-product N64 that had an Ultra 64 jewel to make it resemble the Ultra 64

Nice discovery, I'll be interested to see ifff he gets his hands on an Ultra 64.

Even though it's an RJ-11 connector, you should be able to plug it in to a PC and use it in an emulator, with a little hassle of course. Still, should be easier than tracking down an Ultra 64.

I remember this as well. It may have been Kevin/Assembler. If we are thinking of the same thing, it looked more like a mockup with the U64 logo jewel than a working system. But my memory is hazy.

I'm pretty sure someone over there had an Ultra 64 board too. I'd love to get my hands on any of the proto controllers, but not holding my breath.

Its too bad that he didn't open up the analog stick all the way. But I'm pretty sure its the earlier design for the stick - the one that probably would have avoided the stick turning to shit with age.

Probably would've been more costly to manufacture. Absolutely love the design though.

Would be cool if somebody could 3D print a replica of this stick with those provided schematics and images of the one in Shane's possession. Looks like it completely eradicates the floppy joystick syndrome. Would be nice if people could swap thier old sticks out with an updated one similar to these.
