PS2 Transfer Data from DISC to RAM

hiya, I was wondering if anyone knows how to transfer data from the ps2's CDVD drive / a game into the RAM as a small subroutine / in assembly/mips? Currently working on a translation project and in order to use more space, I need to be able to place my text in the appropriate spots and transferring the english data is a necessity. Specific address regions and knowledge would be very helpful.

I haven't setup the sdk and the link while it does provide functions, none of them are actually compiled into assembly they are just the src. Would it be possible for you to give an assembly compilation, maybe a basic elf just reading "file.txt" from a disc?
