These were used for early development on the GameCube prior to Wii hardware being ready and are known to have been distributed to a number of big studios (c2005).

The buttons have been directly taken from the GBA SP (down to the rubber pads being cut with scissors to fit!).

A debug menu in the prototype for GC Metroid 3 shows a ‘revolution’ Subheading and freelook modes which may relate to this controller, however that protos requirement of a 128MB RAM GC precludes testing on any known GC or Wii Systems (the RAM layout on NDEV and RVT-H being different despite meeting the 128MB req).

I will be jealous of this forever.
They’re appearing on Yahoo Japan every couple of months. I think I’ve seen five or so sold in the past several months.

Very cool, I personally haven't seen many of these around. Do you also have the sensor bar for the memory card slot? You may already be aware, but there's also this old thread on AG showing an unreleased game (Sphear, by N-Space) with images of this controller:

Yes, here’s a photo of the full setup.

I remember seeing that Sphear game but as far as I’m aware it’s not dumped and I contacted the owner last year but he never replied.

I’m pursuing an option to get some original demos running with an SN ProDG devlink (sent one of these controllers to a buddy who has one and familiar with the original code); should get to him next week and I’ll post any findings.

SN TDEV units have more RAM than other dev GC systems. Do they read the Metroid Prime 3 demo ?
