Just an update that he never replied so I retracted my offer. Counted 38 Saturns handy of various revisions/models. Tried to help at least but now it’s time to focus on pandemic woes instead.

Technically you can make a 20-pin drive work on 21-pin motherboard but you need to convert the pinout to match, and set one of the SH1 external register pins to high

Is there some documentation on what exactly changed between the 2 interfaces?
I'd like to guesstimate the required effort. Thanks!

Price point sounds about right, at least for the material costs. Assembly adds a bit, as does the initial investment for developing these. The current price point probably accounts for some future development costs as well, but I had hoped to see Fenrir land at a $60 price-point which I believe would still have a sufficient buffer for regaining initial investments. Currently it's too steep for me (for what it is, hardware wise), and I'll just hold out for the Satiator instead. It's a niche product though, and it's pretty much worth whatever people are willing to pay .

Not sure how easy it will be to clone either, I mean the hardware is super easy, but you'd still need to get the firmware running on there. If it's encrypted that won't be so easy. But I admit I'm no expert when it comes to protecting an ESP32. I'm also not hoping it will be cloned. There will be enough of these on the market soon so let honest competition drive the prices.

I think it's good that there's a choice now. For instance, the Satiatior removes the ability to use the video CD card, so Fenrir is a good choice if that's important to someone.

Good question, I honestly don't know about VCD usage outside games, but my guess is that you'd just put a disk image on the Fenrir and it should work.

VCD usage can probably still happen, but honestly, that's 0.5% of the Saturn community.
