Hello.

Last time I reading a lot of news about ps2 hacking and mechacon.

A lot of people talking about mechacon crash issue that broken lasers on some ps2 models. But I can't find info about what exactly cause this issue.

It is hardware design flaw by Sony or it is flaw in bad mechacon firmware?

I wonder if this issue can be prevented by firmware update.

Any info about it would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I'm looking for the same info, as I just discovered this issue.
Some people says that this was done by Sony on purpose and it was even sued for that.

Also anyone know if "mechpnw" hack can solve the mechacon issue?

I found this:

SCPH-70xxx: First Slim model. Fixed the Independence Exploit. Removed HDD boot support, but still has a full Network Adapter onboard, allowing for installation of an IDE port. Initial steps taken towards making a future ROM version the same the world over. K chassis with ROM 2.00.
  • Only 70x1x models have a connector for an internal 56k modem. (Pictures)
  • Different motherboards for either separate or combined CPU/GPU. Later units have a safety circuit as a hotfix for the mechacon problem (comparable to the unofficial "Matrix/PIC fix"), properly fixed in following models.

So, starting from
SCPH-75xxx the mechacon issue should be fixed or am I reading it wrong?
