They merged in 2004, the same year Faster than Speed was released. So it is still unclear, but plausible, that they shared code.

right, but in big corporations such merges doesn't lead to "share everything", they usually still operate as separate units.

not well known fact: Sega-Sammy merge leaded to such product as "Sega Atomiswave" - slightly redesigned AW motherboard with Sega branding, and modified BIOS which doesn't display Sammy logo at startup.
