Cults which would congregate in MMORPGs?

I am curious if there are any known incidents of controvertial groups, cults, organizations with sinister tones, etc. which have met or meet on MMORPGs? Maybe even singular events which were held that drew loads of players onto a server? I know this is kind of a bizarre question, but I'm asking as a fiction write looking for examples to draw on. Thanks so much!
