people were able to get away with blatantly violating the rules since the site had an absent admin.
This is blatantly false and actually pretty amazing to witness how tame things remained until the final days, only saw porn once and it was in response to someone asking when there would be porn posted. For the last year or two it's just been carrying on as normal albeit very dead.

What? There was a thread where people posted nothing but terrible things, and a lot of it was either sexual or political in nature. That's been going on for months. None of that would've been allowed previously, but Kevin's absence meant that people could do whatever they wanted with no consequences. I also find it ridiculous that your standard of acceptable content on a videogame forum is "not porn". I saw lots of terrible things in that thread that were not pornographic. Anyway, I said people got away with violating the rules, and if you'd read the rules then you would know that porn was not the only type of content that was prohibited.

EDIT: By the way, in case it wasn't obvious, nothing of what I said was intended as an insult.

Everything has a birth, a life, and a death. Assembler was no different, and as the forum as a whole moved away from the aggregation of knowledge I rather lost interest, only dropping by from time to time to see if anything had changed. It's a shame, but that's how things go.

That time me joking about being banned from Assembler on another forum became a Kotaku article.

Long story short- while the WII was still relevant I played Tatsunoko VS Capcom in an emulator on my laptop simply because at the time I was very anti Nintendo. Some Mod didn't take kindly to that told me off because of my method, spiraled into an Anti Nintendo rant and this happens.

RIP. I remember finding this site way back when it was just a blog and drooling over the obscure hardware on display. One of the most important sites on the internet back in the day, I'm really sad to see it go.

Very sad to see it go, but unlike many forums, the folks here have SAVED the history and whatnot. Once "Kev" made the July pronouncement I stopped going there for the most part. Others were still contributing to active posts, which I thought was pointless as the site was a ticking time bomb.

Yeah, it's sad to see it finally close. We had some good times.

Hawanja directed me to Assembler.

Oh yeah, I remember that. Good to see you again!

I'd say anyone worth caring about has come here so dry those eyes!

Better to see it taken offline at last. It had not been in a memorable state for quite some time.

Parts of it are seemingly on the wayback machine, but otherwise it's lost to time.

any chance you could point me to the parts on the wayback machine? All I can find is the front page.
