PS1 PSX serial cable

I am intending to adapt the Hitmen's psx serial cable (http://hitmen.c02.at/html/psx_siocable.html)
from a DB25 parallel PC connector to DB9 serial.

Will the software on the PC side try the parallel port or can any be set to try the serial port to communicate?

Is my schematic correct? and also is substituting a ( pin compatible ? ) DB25 parallel for DB9 serial OK?

is not parallel, old PC use DB25 for serial

why you use real COM port? use FTDI FT232RL it's work fine

Those FTDI chips are gold. So easy to build a Dreamcast serial adaptor (or really any serial adaptor) now thanks to those things and they're like $2 for a full breakout board with USB port, handle 3.3v signals (and of course 5v as well) while powered by 5v USB and all you generally need to do is connect 3-5 wires and boom you have full USB serial on anything that uses a standard serial interface.
